The Luke Commission
PET, the organization, is a faith-based, "In the name of Jesus Christ, arise and walk." The PET unit is hand-cranked and designed to mobilize people who have lost the use of there legs due to a number of reasons such as disease and war.
The PET is more durable than regular wheelchairs. PETs have 4-inch tires which can grip rough surfaces, making it easier for user to travel along dirt paths or rocky terrains. The handles work much like the pedals of a bicycle and are designed to serve well under the rough conditions of third world countries. PET is meant to be used as a vehicle for personal mobility in the tasks which those of us who are able bodied can do easily. The back of the cart can carry goods and produce; such as providing and serving a disabled parent by hauling small children. In raising the user to the level where conversation and participation can be possible with other it also raises the confidence of the user. Many may have been pulling themselves along the ground with their hands before getting a PET. PET's can also serve as a mobile chair or work platform by providing the craftsman or worker with the means to transport the tools of their trade. There are two sizes offered. An adult size and a smaller size for children and small people.
